After the Storm

She laid her head down in her hands. Such loss surrounded her. The house wasn’t the same and she knew it never would be again. The humid air filled her lungs, it took all that she had to swallow. The silence stared her in the face. How was she going to rebuild?

After a few moments to take in what had happened, she gathered herself. She knew she couldn’t just sit there. It’s not how she was raised. Lifting one heavy foot at a time. She dusted herself off and stood steady as steel, unbreakable.

As the ominous clouds dissipated and the sun tore its way through, she saw a rainbow in the distance. She brushed her brown hair from her eyes and tucked it neatly behind her ears. The heat from the sun warmed her spirit.

She bent down and collected the wet soil in her hands and reached up to the sky. “As God as my witness, I’ll rebuild, I will…”
