The Distance Between Us

 

As summer comes to an end—I can’t help but want a do over. My summer has been full of worry, loss, and loneliness. Though I have had some good times and tried new things, painting my kitchen, cooking new dishes, spring cleaning in the summer.

 

My mantra has been, stay strong…I can do this… And some days it works and sometimes it doesn’t…

 

Ultimately, I feel far apart from others because of the virus but weirdly I also feel connected. I know we’re all in the same boat. Though the waters may be deep and seem endless and we all row in different directions. The distance has reminded me that happiness doesn’t come from others. It comes from within.

 

This year has brought so many obstacles. And with each one I try to remind myself I’ll be a better person for it. The phrase, “we’re in this together,” isn’t quite true…because we’re not together right now…we’re far apart. But as we make our way through these atypical days, we have hope that there will be a day that we’re together again…and for me when that day comes—I’m going to appreciate it more than ever…
